Setup
- Each player chooses a faction and takes its board, its pieces and its player aid.
- Each faction sets up according to its own board: the factions do not start the same way.
- Each player draws three cards.
How to play
- Each faction's turn follows three phases, described on its board. Each faction has its own actions and its own way of scoring.
- A clearing is ruled by the faction with the most warriors and buildings combined there.
- To move, you must rule either the clearing you leave or the one you move to.
- In battle, roll both dice: the attacker deals the higher result, the defender the lower. You cannot deal more hits than you have warriors in the clearing.
- A defender with no warriors in the clearing takes one extra hit.
- Cards are used to craft items, depending on the clearings where you have crafting pieces.
Scoring
- Each enemy building or token removed: +1 point.
- A crafted item scores the points printed on its card.
- Each faction also has its own source of points, shown on its board.
End of the game
- The game ends as soon as a faction reaches 30 points: it wins.
- From 10 points, you may play a Dominance card instead of keeping your score: you then win by meeting its condition at the start of your Birdsong.
Frequently asked questions
Do the factions play by the same rules?
No. The common rules (movement, battle, cards) apply to everyone, but each faction has its own actions and way of scoring, detailed on its board.
What happens to my score if I play a Dominance card?
It no longer counts: you can only win by meeting the card's condition.
