Setup
- Each player gets a player board (plantations and city), a starting plantation and a few doubloons.
- The buildings, colonists, ships and victory point chips are prepared according to the number of players.
- One player becomes governor; this role passes to the neighbour each round.
How to play
- On your turn, choose one of the available roles: Settler, Mayor, Builder, Craftsman, Trader, Captain or Prospector.
- Every player carries out the chosen role's action, but whoever took it gets a privilege.
- Roles left unchosen receive a doubloon, which goes to whoever picks them later.
- A plantation or building only works if a colonist occupies it.
- With the Captain, everyone must load goods onto the ships; each good shipped scores points.
Scoring
- Every victory point chip earned by shipping counts.
- Each building scores the points printed on it.
- Occupied large buildings also score a bonus according to their condition.
End of the game
- The end is triggered when the victory point chips run out, when not enough colonists can be supplied, or when a player builds on their twelfth city space.
- Finish the current round before scoring.
Frequently asked questions
Does an empty large building score its bonus?
No: it needs a colonist on it to earn the bonus. Its printed value counts in every case.
