You’ll need the game box. Marquoir sums up the rules and keeps score.

Setup

  • Everyone places a Wheat Field and a Bakery face up in front of them, and their four landmarks on the "under construction" side: Train Station, Shopping Mall, Amusement Park and Radio Tower.
  • The other establishments form fifteen face-up piles in the middle of the table.
  • Each player gets 3 coins; the rest form the bank.

How to play

  • Players take turns clockwise, in three steps: roll, earn, build.
  • Roll one die. Once your Train Station is built, you may choose to roll two and add them up.
  • Every establishment whose number matches the result activates, according to its colour.
  • Blue: pays its owner, whoever rolled.
  • Green: only pays during its owner's own turn.
  • Red: the player who rolled pays the owner.
  • Purple: a special effect during its owner's own turn, such as taking coins from the others; only one of each per city.
  • Payments come before income, going anticlockwise. A player who cannot pay in full gives what they have, with no debt.
  • Then you may build one card, establishment or landmark, by paying its cost to the bank, or keep your money.
  • A landmark that is built is flipped over: its ability applies at once.

Scoring

  • There are no points: you count landmarks.
  • In Marquoir, add 1 for each landmark built; the fourth ends the game.

End of the game

  • The first player to have built all four landmarks wins immediately.

Frequently asked questions

Can you build the same establishment more than once?

Yes, as long as there are some left in the supply, except purple establishments, limited to one per city. Three Mines pay out three times.

Do you always have to roll two dice once the Train Station is built?

No, you choose each turn. A single die is still useful for aiming at establishments numbered 1 to 6.
